What a beautiful it day

After work I packed up the kids and went beach bound. They really enjoyed themselves and even though it was a little rough for the two girls, they made the best of it. Alexa went on the boogie board and tried riding a ripple but found herself tumbling and gasping for air. She cried. Don't know if she'll be back on one soon. She is a very determined chick so I'm pretty sure this won't hurt her ego.

It started raining (really) so we packed up and headed to eat shave ice at Island Snow in Kailua. Liya dropped her cup inside the store literally a minute after she had gotten it. Thanks Island Snow for making her another one and cleaning the mess up. The girl had assured me that it always happens there. Whew, I guess my family is normal. Right?!

Alexa can pretty much swim on her own in her own way. She pretty much taught herself. Gotta watch this one.

Alexa is a pro."

Liya is following Alexa. She is learning on her own and can take a more than 3 gulps of air before she realizes that she may be in a little trouble. This one just jumps out of your arms. Think she's a mermaid!!

Our last year to pop fireworks in Hawaii

Yes, this was our last year for legally popping fireworks here in Hawaii. They are banning this tradition that locals since I can remember have been doing for New Years Eve and the 4th of July. Man am I going to miss it. My two older kids had a blast that night, well, Alexa fell asleep at about 9 and Liya was gone by 8 (I fell asleep at 10 so we didn't see the midnight extravaganza but I sure did hear it!!). The youngest, not so much. A little too loud and the whistles on some really pierced the ears. Here are some pictures of them.

Do you like the girls hair?! Yes they had cut them they're selves (on separate occasions). We did not take Christmas pictures this year because of this. Long story short, I could not fix this because they had had cut their hair almost to the skin (thankfully it did not).
Well, happy new year and we wish you a happy, healthy and safe year to come.

Halloween

We had a nice outing on Halloween. We went to two different neighborhoods this year and got twice as many candy than last. Liya had no shame going to houses and yelling out "trick or treat". Scary houses and costumes did make her think twice though. Here are some pictures of them just before we were off to our adventure for candy!!!!

We still have candy to last a whole year!!

Kahaluu Watershed Trail

Lincoln and his cub scout pack went hiking this past weekend. It was nice for the boys and we all made it to the waterfalls. My youngest fell asleep going up the trail and surprisingly my middle one didn't asked to be carried (well, we were almost to the bottom going back when she realized she was tired). I on the other hand was praying that the waterfall was at the end of each bend. Oh yeah, I was the only one that fell. Yes, with my daughter in my arms, on flat ground, no holes, just regular gravel. I twisted my ankle, then tried to brace myself with my one free hand, and twisted that, so I let go of my daughter like about 10 inches from the ground. That was one of the worst things I ever did. Just watching her fall from my hands onto gravel. Oh, she is fine, me, I'm just haunted by what I did.
There were beautiful flowers and fruits (mountain apples, guava, bananas and papayas from what I've seen). My kids ate guava and mountain apples for the first time. It was a very nice hike and the waterfall was just gorgeous.

This is a mountain apple tree and the fruits are being rinsed out to be eaten.

Guava.

We show respect to the hawaiian lands, gods, spirits and waterfall by wrapping gifts with ti leaves.

wild orchids on the trails.

White ginger flowers has such a sweet fragrance.

The girls picked souvenirs of rocks, flowers and fruits. By the end of the trail, she was dragging the bag and was surprised to see what happened to her goodies. I had about 12 plus souvenirs of mosquito bites. Thanks.
